The regional capital is Nitra (25 km), an old historical and university town. Delights to savor include period architecture with interesting museums, independent shops, a diverse range of cheaply priced quality restaurants, pubs, night clubs and  range of guided tours, which can be booked via Nitra Information Centre.

The name Nitra is connected with the beginnings of the history of Slovakia, with the names of Pribina, Svatopluk, Sts. Cyril and Methodius and even with the mention of the first Christian church on the territory of Slovakia and with the introduction of the old Slavonic alphabet.
