The regional capital is Nitra (25
km), an old historical and university town. Delights to savor include
period architecture with interesting museums, independent shops, a diverse range of
cheaply priced quality restaurants,
pubs, night clubs and range of
guided tours, which can be booked via Nitra
Information Centre.
The name Nitra is connected with the beginnings of the history of
Slovakia, with the names of Pribina, Svatopluk, Sts. Cyril and Methodius
and even with the mention of the first Christian church on the territory
of Slovakia and with the introduction of the old Slavonic alphabet. |

Banská
Štiavnica
(30km) is one of the most strikingly beautiful and historically
interesting towns in Slovakia.It was inscribed on the List of World
Cultural and Natural Heritage of UNESCO in 1993, thus receiving a great
international recognition. The inscription includes the town’s
historical centre plus the technological monuments in its surroundings.

If you would like to travel further a field, then Budapest
(only 144km) and Bratislava
(115km) would be the ultimate day trip for you.

Zlaté Moravce (8km) is one of the seven district towns of the Nitra region.
The Roman
Catholic church of the archangel holy Michael (pictured to the left is situated in the main square)
& is definitely worth a visit. Town is also ideal for your grocery shopping,
dining out etc.

The
village of Jelenec (10 km) is also
ideal as a starting point for walking tours to the Tríbec mountain range and ruins of
the Gothic
castle Gymes from the 13th century. There are two lakes near the
campsite,ideal for fishing and watersports with the possibility to hire
water-bicycles in the summer season.

Topoľčianky
(12 km) can offer a number of tourist attractions - a walk in an English
style park with rare foreign trees and bushes. If you are interested in
horses you will find a collection of National breeding studs together with
a race-course and a park course; and if you wish you can
go for a ride. At the beginning of the 19th century a classic
manor-house was built there, at present it houses the Museum of
historical furniture. The village is also a home to the Award Winning Wine
makers (Vinarske
zavody Topoľčianky), where you can taste
their delicious wine. |

North of the village Lovce there is
a game preserve of Bisons (rare breed of Buffalo).They live on an area of about
30 ha. |
There is an arboretum in Tesárske Mlyňany
(10 km) , one of the most beautiful and richest in the Central Europe. It
consists of 4 gardens (European, Japanese, Chinese and American).There are
more than 2000 of foreign woody plant species grown in the gardens.

Other
activities available in the area are Tennis, Football, Go-Karting,
Massage, Thermal Spas and walking or cycling for miles on Tribec's wild
life reserve.
